A voice agent is an AI system that holds a spoken conversation, usually on the phone, to answer customers and get tasks done. PolyAI, a London company, builds voice agents that answer calls for hotels, banks, shops and others, running on its own dialogue models (per the site); its model family, Raven, is built for live customer-service conversations by phone and chat. Its researchers published the ConveRT conversational model in 2019. The tile also lists ElevenLabs' Eleven Realtime speech-to-speech models for voice agents (per the site).

Context

  1. PolyAI researchers in London published ConveRT, a model for understanding conversations that trains faster than earlier methods. 9 November 2019 arxiv.org/abs/1911.03688ConveRT trains substantially faster than standard sentence encoders or previous state-of-the-art dual encoders.
  2. PolyAI raised $86 million, co-led by Georgian, Hedosophia and Khosla Ventures (reported). 17 December 2025 poly.ai/blog/polyai-raises-86-million-series-dThis $86 million round is co–led by Georgian, Hedosophia, and Khosla Ventures
  3. PolyAI says its total funding has passed $200 million. 17 December 2025 poly.ai/blog/polyai-raises-86-million-series-dPolyAI has surpassed $200 million in total funding.
  4. PolyAI says it handles tens of millions of medical transport calls. 17 December 2025 poly.ai/blog/polyai-raises-86-million-series-dWe handle tens of millions of medical transport calls
